A Beautiful Banshee? Aye! But...

Are you the parent, relative, or caregiver of an artistic kid who loves mythical creatures and fantasy? If so, she or he would most probable enjoy this book where the publisher and illustrator accept them through drawing 50 different mythical creatures in nine steps. They utilize a loose filigree method, a three-past-three grid. Perhaps it would have been better if the grid was a lilliputian finer and tightly focused on the creature (every bit it only predominantly filled the center square). As one of the unartistic souls in an artistic family unit, books like this always intrigued me because they requite me promise that I could draw something passable. I did recollect the difference between the steps at times was likewise great for a relatively unartistic person. But I remember that someone who does have that aptitude and who loves fantasy would enjoy attempting to make these mostly cute fantasy creatures. I like that at the outset of the book they break downward how to work with bones shapes to get started drawing. They actually country that you could work with the book in ii ways, focusing on getting the essential shapes right (the dashed lines in the footstep-by-footstep portion) before getting to the details or simply going directly to the darker lines for the finished version.

I exercise accept a couple of issues with the volume bated from the ones mentioned. It actually takes a while to go to the cartoon portion of the book, as the publishers take provided some trivia questions and factoids most the mythical creatures. I call back that both these could have been put on the last page for each brute rather than take an entirely separate department to do then. In that location is plenty of space to add together, a line or ii nearly what the creature is or what it is known for, rather than clutter the starting time of the book. While kids might find that information fascinating, those who want to draw will want to just get to that.

Every bit y'all might have gathered, the book has a significant written portion, and unfortunately, it does not appear to have been copyedited or proofread. There are so many errors in this book, from comma splices to incorrect words to incorrect capitalization to incorrect and inconsistent use of hyphens, etc. I never similar to see this in a children's volume. Children are such sponges who learn from every place, including books like this. There was fifty-fifty ane spot where the offset of the sentence was not capitalized; in that same sentence, they used the wrong word. I did receive a PDF advance reader copy, but from what I saw of the published edition in the preview at Amazon, the errors persist in the published version. And so, while I think this book could exist proficient for artistic children, I don't like all the linguistic communication errors.

I received a free re-create of this volume, but that did non impact my review.
